1899 dog tags

I have been told to post these in this forum. they both are from 1899 from the top down first they have the name newton,i can only guess that stands for the virus strain for the rabies shot? next one has the number 10 and the other has a 5 on it. next line says dog check and then the year,1899. any info will help. Nice finds! Tags were issued by the town of Newton. Since you live in NC - who knows - maybe both tags were issued by the City of Newton, North Carolina...

Here is an example of another one from a different town.

Thanks for sharing that tag with me. I never thought I would find one from the 20s or 30s much less the 1800s
