My son was working on an older home in sw Georgia and he found this token. I have looked in my GA token book and the token catalog online but can’t find any info. When I google Tuton, Ga the only thing I get is a Tuton Rd. In Mitchell county which is near where the token was found. Any help in finding more information is appreciated. I have learned a good bit about the naval stores industry in Georgia though. Thanks, Charlie

Nice find! There should be some interesting history on the business. Please post it on tokencatalog.

George D. Collins was appointed postmaster of Tuton, Mitchell County, on Oct. 5, 1895. The post office was renamed to Terrace, Colquitt County on March 10, 1900. In 1903, the Terrace post office was closed in favor of Doerun. The town of Terrace was just inside the Colquitt County line. The border between Colquitt and Mitchell Counties makes a jog right by the junction of highway 270 and Greenough road. This is where Terrace was located, and I assume Tuton was close by. Greenough road is called Tuton road to the west of Greenough. I expect all of Greenough road used to be called Tuton road.
I have added the listing to the TokenCatalog site, but permission to use your images would be greatly appreciated... or you can load directly to the site.
Great find!

Might be a good idea to research the location of that store and town.

All,
Thank you very much for the information. This token was found in Camilla so all of the info makes sense. I will be glad to add it to the token catalog site. I have done this for a couple of other tokens. Again thank you.

Nice find, and it must be pre 1900 if it says Tuton. Maybe Span-Am War era?

I'd never heard of that town here in Southwest Georgia. If you ever find any duplicates I'd be interested in a trade.
