If you learn how to use the Ace 250 you could do very well.
But don't expect the same depth as a high end detector.
Will it get the old stuff? Yes, but you have to put your coil over the old stuff.
Here is an example:
Earlyer this year I met up with a fellow treasurenet member to hunt a hayfield
next to my house, this hay field yielded over a dozen 1830-50s large coppers.
He had his new Ace 250 and I was using my trusty Whites XLT.
Although he did find a pistol ball I missed, he went right past a 1843 large cent.
I went back over the area he had been hunting and picked it up.
I wanted him to get an old coin (I was just hoping it was not silver ;D)
So I let him have the signal. He sweeped his coil over it and sure enough,
a good strong signal.
He found his oldest coin that day, with a little help. He just had to put the coil over it.

I would go with the ACE 250 if that's your price range, it is a fine starting detector.

Here is my post from that hunt.

HH,
Donny

I'm the guy Donny is talking about,I've been using the ACE250 for some time now..and the higher you turn up the sensitivity the deeper your finds are gonna be. It will find good targets over 8 inches deep,i have found old coins over 10 inches..

Good luck

Shawn

Great guys! I really appreciate the information. My strategy will be to hunt on all metal, with maximum sensitivity. I cannot wait for this sucker to arrive! I have plenty of sites picked out...and some people to hunt with. I am just lacking the most important thing!

Thanks again!

Try using it in jewelry,or coin mode in the higher sensitivity, all metal mode with sen. maxed out will have you digging lots of junk(foil, tabs, cans, iron etc.)

good luck

i would suggest when u get an ace 250 start using the coin or jewelry mode and set sensetivity to 50% and u will dig less trash if not u will dig every piece of foil and iron in the area and when u hit alum or iron pres elim button to notch this out

don't over do it on the sensitivity you will get false signals big time :read2:

yes, you will get old coins thats for sure. A lot of people have the ACE 250 and have great luck with them. Dig everything above Iron and then show us the GOLD! :icon_thumright:
