You guys over there have "Gov't controlled everything". Gov't controlled.......Health care........this "so called" treasure law........and my personal favorite----NO FIREARMS. Now only the criminals have guns. AWESOME.............First time I've ever seen a so- called Democracy, use a "Socialist" (Communist), style of government. How's it workin' out for ya! :laughing9: I guess this way of governing is why our four-fathers left. I really shouldn't laugh,(but I can't help it), as some of these "DIMWITS" that run our country, want to institute some of these exact same things. Kinda nice to have a system of checks and balances where no one agency, or branch of government can obtain too much power. Thank God for "The Bill of Rights" and our Constitution.

You forgot to mention our poor dental hygeine, stupid accents, warm beer, how foggy London is, and probably a few more misconceptions... :mblah05:

Steve UK,

Why aren't you smiling in your avatar picture? Bad dental hygeine? HAHAHAHAHA

Seriously though,

When it comes to Treasure Hunting, England has the absolute best Treasure Trove Laws on Earth! While it DOES force people to turn in virtually everything they find, they will get top dollar for it!

If it is not deemed of historical value, they can have it back, and sell it at their leisure or keep it.

If it IS deemed of historical value, the government assesses the value of the object. If the finder doesn't agree with the assessed value, they can have an independent third party assess it. Then museums can bid on it.

As long as its' above board and the finder is not getting ripped off (like in the US), it promotes people turning in nice finds. As it is currently in the US, many finds that are easy to remove are done so secretly, and many things' historical values are lost. Our government is too greedy, and in being so greedy they are loosing out on a lot. How does the old saying go? The tighter you squeeze your fist around something, the more of it leaks between your fingers.

OH THAT'S RIGHT! It isn't an old saying. I just remembered where I heard that! STAR WARS. HAHAHA Princess Leia said it to Governor Tarkin:

"The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers"

I like British laws. :icon_thumright: They created Australia. Most of convicts transported here for life were just petty thieves who were kindly spared of their usual death penalty for a coupla bobs of loot. Now those who survived formed a prosperous country and Brits are migrating here en masse on their free will. Nah, they are not very patriotic about their fog. They prefer sunshine. :laughing7:

That law is going to provoke people who do find treasure hoards not to report them for the fear of losing it , i can understand them wanting to know where it was found what it is examine it and then give it back to the person who found it all that to preserve history .Right now that law is ridiculous .

We only have to hand in a very few objects, thats why its a good Law. Anything over 300 years old with 10% gold or silver content not including single coin finds. This has meant me only handing in about 10 or so items in 20 years & I got them ALL returned to me ;D

No Tuatara,

The Brits LOVE the fog! The denser the better! It hides the poor dental hygiene and aids in reproduction! HAHAHA

I tease the Pommy Basterds because in the VERY early 1980s, two of my best friends were Royal Marines. One was a Liverpudlian and the other a Cockney. Rocky (the Liverpudlian) died in the Falklands (not to be a buzzkill or anything).

Met them during Mardi Gras the year before I went on active duty.

First of all.....a hardy thanks to UK Stan for this "ongoing" controversial post. Second......You guys can look at the "positive" aspects of your governments laws and bylaws, and say it's good enough for me. The fact is, the few people that are making these laws up say it's for the common good. But is it coming from the moral majority, or the immoral minority that is speaking for you all? Seems to me, the "Monarchy" style of your so called "Democracy" is leading you into a "Socialist" style of government. I like you guys, and enjoy reading your posts and seeing the great coins and relics you find. But when I read the post of how this lady was treated over, what seems to be a rather insignificant find, I say :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3:. What's next on the agenda over there, censorship or book burning? :laughing9: Don't be afraid to speak up. Or are you afraid "Big Brother is Watching"? :o :-X 8) :icon_pirat: (sometimes I even surprise myself)

In England, YES.
In the USA, report it as "Additional Income" (without explanation) on your tax returns, pay the tax, and keep your mouth shut.

I spent a week on R & R in Sydney in 1969 and learned that the quickest way to start a fight there is to call an Aussie a Limey. Hell, even the women will bow-up and want to kick your a--. I saw this one night in a night club when a troop called my date a limey (joking) and she stood up and called him out on it. :sign10: He apologized after he figured out she wasn't joking. :laughing7:
