Even if you have a work visa, you still might not be able to detect in other countries. Some countries have strictly forbidden metal detectors from even making it to their airport and will be confiscated, possible jail time, fines, etc.

Do need it a work visa to search for treasures in other countries?

I’m sure it depends on which country as to whether they require a visa at all. the intent of a work visa is to allow you to stay in the country for a long period of time in order to work. If you are looking for treasure on say, a vacation then likely not. If you are going to a country to be employed by a treasure hunting outfit that is based there then probably. If you are conducting business treasure hunting while you live there then the answer is probably yes. If you are just going to search for some lost gold then you are not really conducting business and this a work visa is probably not the correct one. IANAL. See statement 1. Go from there.

Which country? Just detecting surface items, or excavation/dredging/historic sites?

Welcome to Tnet.

On other threads you asked (several times) "Are there any treasure hunters who are legally searching for Mayan artifacts?"

Is that what you had in mind? You won't get much help on your answers unless you are more precise about what you wish to do, where you wish to do it, and what expectations you have about ownership of anything you might find.
