I found two photos of Crooked Lake FL on the Florida memory project website and need help identifying something in the background. Both photos are from the 1920s and have a series of huge poles in the water. I can't imagine why they would need something that tall out in the lake. Any idea what and where on the lake these items are?

I believe they are power poles. I was fishing in a FL lake (a long time ago) and they very similar to the ones in the lake I was fishing in.
