Four feet down! Seems kind of deep.

I wouldn't rule it out completely. it may have been put in a Hole that already existed at that Depth.
or he was paranoid enough to go the extra distance.
But I agree. My guess Either it slid down before he found it, or he Exaggerated.

at that depth it wasn't a Spur of the Moment Hiding place.
That is for sure.

There are several lost treasure and outlaw loot stories that may be associated with the few details of this find. Time to get out the files and try to figure out which one to mark FOUND!
