Read this in the 1889 Pittsburgh Post.....

A businessman, John Stewart, sold his business for $1400.00 in cash and was going to relocate to NY.

He met a few other fellows, one from Pittsburgh, at Butte, where they stayed at the Southern Hotel.

The three fellows were, J.H.Riley and C.N.Tice from NY and H.W.Straight from Pittsburgh.

About 9pm, Straight went out and brought back a bottle of drugged beer, which Stewart drank and quickly fell asleep.

When Stewart awoke around midnight he felt "queer" and realized he had been drugged and was probably robbed...which he discovered he had.

Tice and Riley were arrested immediately but Straight had hired a back and driven to Silver Bow.

Two officers followed him and arrested him. They recovered $627.00 and Straight refused to tell them what happened to the rest.
