Interesting thanks for sharing this, I have never heard of this find which is about 35 minutes away.
I have heard of Spanish silver coins found by Fort Presque Isle in Erie, PA.
Also the gold coins from Fort Duquesne are supposedly buried around Minerva, Oh.

Wow! I have never heard of this article or story. I am live right by Franklin and have did 'some' research on Fort Machault and the later forts as well, but this is a new one on me...thanks Jeff!! Amazing research as always!

Great story. I heard it before but never in this great detail. Thanks for sharing. Its interesting that the descendants of the Capt. had a map of that treasure chest but couldn't find it? Also, the story alluded to Captain Kidd's treasure in that area? I didn't know he was that far west in PA? I had heard he navigated the Susquehanna. Could he have picked up the Allegheny and navigated that to Franklin?

If you read the clipping above Closely, They Reference Capt Kidd treasure Hunters
Only in Jest. "Will Serve to rekindle the Ardor of hunters for Capt Kids Buried Treasure"

Just like Celeron Buried The Plates to Mark France's Territory in America.

Joncarre is Suspected of Buried Treasure at all The French Forts
in NW PA & I believe possibly NE Ohio . I'm not real Up on the Ohio end

I believe the best Reference I've read was in Report of the Commission to locate the site of the frontier forts of Pennsylvania volume 2.
