Been checking in on this thread for a couple of years now. Glad to see its still going. Don't have much to add to the story line, but would be interested in joining in the search. You all might need some hands to move all that rubble.

The hardest part is convincing the wife to let me run off by myself for a week.

    They must be young.

I wanted to go this year. Tried last year but called "mission abort" after parking on the South bend and looking at the terrain and the clock.

    Maybe next year...

Just one piece of brown sugar quartz highgrade would be exciting as confirming some of the lore!

I'm waiting for the monsoons to stop in the high country.

Nah, the monsoons should be gone within 2 weeks, and its usually dry and warm for at least a month after they leave.

    Gentlemen,

I just stumbled across this site. Interestingly enough, I actually made the trip up to the headwaters of Twilight Creek not long after the last post in this thread. You can find a trip report and a few pictures here. Backpacking and Hiking Forum - Backpackers' Basecamp

If anyone is interested in making this trip, I'd be happy to share additional details about my route. It's not easy, but certainly better than attempting to follow Twilight Creek.

I have actually found other people on sites that have done the same. Some clambered over the mountains from the north to access the basin, and others opted to come up from Purgatory Flats as you did.
