I have other versions of this. It's what the Beale Codes is based on. From the centre of the map you traveled along a bearing to a triangle . This was thought to represent three mountains in a triangle. One application was it sent you to the Peaks of Otter: three mountains in a perfect equilateral triangle as found by Thomas Jefferson when he surveyed them.

For those who like this type of mystery I'll post two more versions of this story here and how they 'grew into a legend of their own'.

The first you would be familiar with being mentioned on The Curse of Oak island: Zena Halpern and her obviously modern map that everyone rolled their eyes at.

It's like a 5th hand version of this story again being a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of the map etc so it did have it's basis in fact.

Another comes from her source: The Cremona Documents. Yes they are modern constructs but again they are 5th hand retellings of the story by persons who have no idea what they are repeating and haven't bothered to trace the origin of it all.

This image is the application of the map from 'The Cremona Documents' , from a central point you head along a special bearing.

Just up the road from this 'Narraganset' attempt is another one where people turned up with the map again thinking it was the correct spot at Newcastle, you can read about it by clicking on this link:

Wentworth Buried Treasure Tales

You'll notice it's from the same time when Oak Island was also very active, as these all are. Those who dig deeper will observe the island mentioned in this story is similar in shape to Oak Island also.

For those who would like to read another version, again in the region, this one mentions the map has 3 spots: that's the triangle marked on the map again. Sometimes it was said to be three mountains, other times it was said to mark three treasure caches.

You heard that last version being repeated in The Curse of Oak Island.

Remember when the Mcginnis women turned up and tried to tell a story about how there were three treasures that were actually found?

You are looking at where they got that little bit of 'make it up as you go along'.

And just to pop your corks, here is a copy of the 'Spanish origin' map mentioned in the article at the start of the thread and how it was used on Oak Island by the first searchers to determine where they should dig to find the treasure.

You did know that it was a spanish map that started it all, didn't you because Marty, Rick and Doug Crowell does..........

(Sorry, the green circle is where the Money Pit was sunk. The purple circle is where Dan Blankenship sunk Borehole 10X after the Money Pit was found empty. Hands up who believed the story he 'dowsed' the site of Borehole 10x?)

And to show you how well known BY EVERYONE that a treasure map started Oak Island here just some of the reports before they 'went' missing from the local archives in the late 1960s.....

Don't forget that everyone was told about it by Doug Crowell in his own words also.

I understand that they might not have really mentioned it on the show because admitting you know what the mystery was about doesn't keep the money coming in.....

Meanwhile, back on Oak Island:

"Where should we put the shaft this time Marty?",

"Ya know Rick, why don't we just use the map again? Make sure the door is closed, we don't want this getting out."

(If there is enough interest I'll explain fully how the map is being translated and read on the island)
