I've never seen such a sharp edged square rock out in the field.

It might be interesting to take a closer look at what it is setting on. Is that caliche? If it is..one wonders why they rested it on caliche.

Could it be to level it somehow...because degrees and angles were important?

Or perhaps the caliche used to have dirt and stone piled around it that washed away. That is if it is caliche.

That just a thought and speculation. No secret meaning.

Good luck and welcome to t-net :)

Looks like that pic was taken Late in the Day..

if you could return & retake the pic with the sun behind you around the noon hour It maybe more revealing?

Good EYE ..As OD would say natural things in Un natural settings.

Hi
I would start with taking Photographs of those cliffs behind you
You have a lot of Sun and Shadow sign going on over there
And I dont think there Trail Markers

Good afternoon Ladies and gentlemen:

By a curious coincidence that appears to be of the exact size and shape of the monument as required by Mexican law to establish the location of a mining claim.

Look carefully for any remains of the required data which must be painted on the monument on one of the faces with black paint.

You especially need the EXP. data. The name is actually useless since there are so many duplicates

The cross on top is to be used to establish the precise location of the surveyors instrument, whether a GPS now, or a sextent then. A plumb is dropped from the physical center of the measuring device

Se the accompanying pictures for the details.

Some where in the vicinity there is a mineral showing, probably a mine. Ask around. Also, while not very effective, ask for the name. It is possible that you can find the files of the original agency and locate it among any others by the lat. & Long. or base reference point.

Don Jose de La Mancha

Montecristo, Looking through a book of old Greek treasure signs the meaning given to two of your signs MIGHT BE: Square rock = half moon - treasure may only be removed at night when its half moon. Might have something to do with where a 'shadow' could be cast? The 'T' symbol = treasure is hidden here. I note there are other signs on top of square rock. It would be great if you could post a picture of whole of top of rock face, "without wetting it first" more legible that way. Will save you digging time as direction of signs makes a difference, that is, according to this book I have.
