usernotfound, the only meaning that I have found for a V is 22 ( alphabet = 220 CM = could = the depth ) and the other meaning that I have seen it used is something covered, don't make any difference, upside down, side ways, all that I have seen have been something # 1 covered #2 directional.Stright up seems to work best as roman numeral or 5--- 50 --- 500,

Ernie,
The "V" is also used on markers and monuments to provide verification that it is an actual marker.
I have seen it used on face markers to show whether the eye or the nose is the directional pointer as well.
The "V" as a Spanish marker has a value of 5.

Talking about multiple meanings...
Here is a bear with a nose pointer. The open mouth is also part of a heart lobe outline. There is also a profile inside the bears mouth looking left. If anyone can mark these up... I would appreciate it. Attached also is a picture of...well I do not know what it is. Only educated guesses. Any help is appreciated. I'll share more if there is interest. Thank you.

Snake, considered to be a danger sign...wouldn't be surprised if there is a water source in the direction of travel. Considering the wave looking sign.

That snake could also be the distance marker. Measure the length from the nose to the tip of the tail, in a straight line. If the snake is on the side of the stone, the value is in Spanish feet. If on the top of the stone, the value is in varas. Multiply the value by 10 for the total value. If the snake is on a convex surface, multiply by 100 instead of 10. If the snake is in a concave area, the measurement is in feet, regardless if it is on a vertical or horizontal surface.......still multiply by 100. If the head and tail are on the same level, go in the direction the head is indicating. If the tail is higher than the head, go in THAT direction.

The water sign is a good possibility considering the almost wiped out top wave making a set of three. the bottom wave says exercise caution and gives direction of travel as well as possible distance.
Nice catch guys.

You might try and retake the the photo between 9:00 and 10:00 at this time of year to compensate for the axis angle. In April and May I had really good drawings ,but can hardly see some of them now may have to wait till next year. One snake I have ,is not a snake but Mountains!

This is typically a sign to designate an indian burial, This sign can be seen all over tumacacori and in the cemetery at Tubac.
Many treasure hunting sign books identify it as meaning church treasure but that is not what this symbol represents.
Best regards

I'm most certainly new to this site but am fascinated by signs left behind...but...how do you know that bear isn't "just a rock"? Other signs in the area? Not trying to be a smartass, genuinely curious.

Yes, there are other signs and symbols. I was not interested in this hobby until I stumbled on a 200 year old panel while hiking.

The snake points to water. Be careful the elements will also make shapes.I learned to analyze your markings and if there is no other markings like a heart move on.you'll be hiking or digging yet for years.good luck

There is no water in this area. THere is a mine though, I've been in it. Perhaps there's another mine nearby that I don't know about.

Here's a double hoyo I found that seems to point to absolutely nothing from both sides. THe only option I have is an egg shaped rock that's about 15' to the right of where the hoyo looks, and 175 ish yards away. At the right angle there's an owl. I saw the owl first walking up on this rock before I saw the hoyo.

Here is one for you. This is a triangle shaped rock that you can see has been chipped and shaped. It points under the tree toward the river bank. Here is where it gets interesting. I took my camera down there to take a picture of it and not 5 feet to the right of it is a verticle purple aura line. What do yall make outa this?
Also across the path from the rocks is a tree with a uniformally shaped hole in it. There may not be anything to the hollow tree, it was just odd that it was directly across the walk way from the rock.
Thanks Shortstack for the help. That was it, I was using too large a pixel.
