From This is the 122-carat diamond Alrosa just found at its Jubilee pipe | MINING.com
lrosa, the world's top diamond producer by output in carats, has found another massive precious rock at its Jubilee kimberlite pipe, in Yakutia, northeast Russia. The 121.96-carat diamond was extracted by the company’s business unit Aikhal Mining and Processing Division at the processing plant No.14, Alrosa said in a statement.
The impressive rock has an octahedral shape and its dimensions are 31.28 х 30.00 х 28.57 mm.
In terms of colour, Alrosa said the crystal presents a “2 Black Sawables 3 colour” quality, adding that it is transparent with moderate yellowish hue. There also are some small olivine, graphite and sulphide inclusions in the diamond.
Alrosa’s Jubilee pipe is famous for its large finds. A few diamonds from 50 to 138 carats were recovered from the deposit last year, including a 76.07-carat diamond, which was named in honour of 70 Years of the Soviet Union’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 against Nazi Germany.
