This is not as suprising as the article implies. Artifacts from the Viking Age on Iceland are found on a fairly regular basis. To find any away from known settlements or camps is a bit unusual, however. When one considers that many of the towns and villages have been continuously occupied since at least the midevel warming period, with some since before 1000 AD, one can understand how artifacts are found frequently. Yes, I have been there. Love the island. Can even read a bit of Icelandic. The written word in not that different from Danish or Norwegian.
