Charlotte Ghioto, of Stuart, left, vice president of the Southeast Florida Archaeological Society, smiles at Val Martin, of Stuart, right, a member of the society, who is holding glassware from the 19th century, as Linda Geary, center, of Stuart, second vice president of the society, digs for more artifacts Saturday where a house belonging to the Armed Occupation Act Colony of 1842 once stood. Members of the society, along with state and local archaeologists, spent the morning running metal detectors and digging around the location of the 163-year-old chimney on Indian River Drive.

Its interesting because by 1850 the Indian River area was abandoned due to Indian hostilities.

Here is something that will surprise many.
Did you know that there was a tribe of Indians called the COCOLUSA that lived in what is now called COCOA. The name COCOA did not come from the Cocoa plant but from this tribe of indians and that this tribe were the tallest of any American Indian tribe.
The last one died in the mid 1840's.
