A builder who stumbled upon 99 silver Anglo Saxon coins in a farmer's field has hit the jackpot after they fetched €106689.58 at auction.
Don Crawley, 50, will take home half of the hefty cash haul, which is to be split with the landowner of the forgotten Saxon church site in Suffolk.

Anyone who thinks they treat treasure finders poorly in the UK doesn't live in a state that "owns" everything in the ground. At least in the UK the government pays you for it.

I have always maintained the 50/50 deal between landholder and finder is a good deal. After all if it was just finders keepers. There is no incentive for a land holder to allow people permission to metal detect on their property if they get nothing. And government if the treasure is treasure trove have pay a fair market price for it. I see it as a win win situation.
