Re: Diggers vocabulary DON'T DO IT!

I googled metal detecting lingo and slang. Not one of those words showed. So as I was tecting I ran across a juice pocket, and pulled and an old coin, I could smell the nector. It was a 1981 cent worth 5 bucks ( I thought) but due to the civ roundness it was only worth 3 bucks.

You guys are so funny, I dont know why people feel the need to post how many years they have been detecting, the hobby changes so much that nobody will ever be an expert. The lingo is real boys and we use it often not because we are backwoods idiots but because its a great hobby and we love it. I have detected for over 10 years and I assure you I am always learning new things. Maybe we should start legislation so that every detectorist must have at least 6 months of training on how to dig a proper hole before they can get their detecting licence.

I agree with that last statement and I would sign that petition... but it should more accurately named "How to cover your holes properly" Anyone can dig a hole though digging it properly makes covering back a lot easier.

oh BTW detecting has not changed... the technology has and so have to people if this is the kind of terms that are headed our way!

Completely agree. Those where some of the most idiotic terms imaginable. Do they actual think they'll start some trendy slogans, I don't, but then again I never expected “Tebowing”. (Tim Tebow, N.F.L. Denver Broncos quarterback)

I think i will use juice pocket. I like to take juice with me when I hunt, keeps me hydrated. I can probably call everything at the bottom of my holes sweet nectar.

Re: Diggers vocabulary DON'T DO IT!

Don't some of the people on this very site make up their own words too

Hmmm, lets take Archies for archaeologists and sheeple for people

So perhaps Buff4, is right.. The only people capable of making trendy slogans are all here on this site I pretty sure that if your out hunting with someone, there is a good chance that you will make up an expression of your own somewhere down the line.

I haven't even seen the show, but it seems they are out enjoying themselves and having a little fun. Boys will be boys If you don't like the show, or their lingo, do yourself a favor and watch something else.

Just because the two of you use the terms doesn't make the lingo "real". I would be fine if everyone had to learn how to recover targets properly before being sold a detector. We wouldn't be locked out of so many spots if not for lazy people tearing up the sod and leaving scars that are visible for months or longer.
The amount of detecting time is important because skills SHOULD get better with practice. If someone comes on and says "this detector is a piece of junk, I've used it for one day and it's junk". That time frame is important to the following discussion.
