I just found the site and read about the SPM in Cedar City. Can someone give me some directions to this?

I've lived in Cedar for a while so I know landmarks and general areas.

I don't have a metal detector but would be interested if one of you locals has or knows where to find a good deal. After I get one I'd be interested in going detecting sometime if someone down here needs a partner.

Thanks,

Curtis

Is this regarding the Shotput man with the hidden owl engraved in it?

I'm not sure about the hidden owl. Incidentally I did find the shot put man. Is there more than one?

Yeah, there are a few. Is this a pic of the one you're talking about?

If so, there is an Owl drawing "masked" by the shot put man. Here is the same picture of the shot put man with some airbrush to show the Owl.

Yes that is the one I've seen. Know any thing about the mine or hole in the ground above the SPM?

The owl is interesting, I'll have to go back and look at that again.

Thanks,

Not much, other than the general locaton, and some pics I've found online. I plan on maybe heading up there this spring. I am currently pursuing a couple of sites in Utah and New Mexico. These have been taking up all of my time, so I'm not sure if I'll get a chance. Too many places to go, not enough time! :)

You'll have to let us know if you go, and what you find. Take some good pictures.

There is some info (and some awesome pics in general) here:

I hope that's the right site. Each light blue Heading is a link to that section. While you're there, check out the "Red Mountain mysteries" link, pretty cool.

You head due east out of Cedar City on Highway 14 for about a half a mile, on the left there is a dirt road going north park about 100 yards from the highway and the Shotput man is in a draw to the East. These are roughly the GPS coordinates :

37°40'30.37"N 113° 2'39.87"W

If you are anywhere near Provo there is a presentation in January on Symbols, you can find the info here :
