The new Washington Gold and Fish guide along with its definition WAC looks to restrict metal detecting on all Washington State owned lands. May be used by counties and municipalities to restrict MD use. The undefined use of the word artifact means anything taken from the ground while MDing is an artifact and is restricted. Otherwise, any mineral taken from the ground would be restricted to times and places as defined in the Gold and Fish guide. The Washington Prospectors Mining Association is having a meeting on Thursday, January 17, 7:00 p.m. at the Redmond Eagles Hall, 11440 Avondale Rd NE, Redmond, Washington. This is a general membership meeting open to the public and their main topic to be floored will be their efforts (and yours can be voiced) in shaping the new Gold and Fish guide before it goes into publication. I talked to the chapter president and he recommends any MDers out there to get involved so their activities are not restricted before they can have their say.
