First character means either 'big' or 'fire.' But it looks odd for either character. The others I'd need to work on a while, and the characters within the orange borders are too small to even see.

Back later ... i hope.

Yikes.

First and third characters contain five strokes (I draw them out, count the strokes, and look up the meaning). First one I got as near as I can guess. Second character...later. Third character I can NOT find! And only five strokes. Fourth, ' I'or ' motte,' depending on the reading, and meaning starting point, means, use, through, because. Fifth...lotsa strokes...later. I hope.

Second character: 11 strokes, 'Tei,' meaning stop. Whew.

Fifth and last character, cannot find exact match, but contains the character element for 'eye' or 'see,' and the element for 'divide.'

I haven't...it's really to small to see much.

That other character is really bugging me...it's only five strokes!
As I stated it is modern mixed media art peice so it could be jumbled intentionally but I am going to add a close up soon,I actually am going to rest.Again THANKS for your input🖒

Yikes.

Most of these are ten strokes and above and it's still not a clear image. There may only be one or two I couod 'get.'

It would need a native speaker to unravel the rest of them, so if you're anywhere near a university, Japanese community, or art museum, see if someone there can help you.

Sorry not to be able to offer better help than this.

Nicely done, sir! I use the old-fashioned way of drawing the characters, counting the strokes, then looking them up in a Japanese language reference book. It's kinda fun when they're simple. ;)

Tokenhead, those are on the small pic - Seems like a random ad for a 'walk in' freezer and washing machine?

Take it to a chinene restaurant. I had a brass appliance badge in Chinese so took it to the local Chinese restaurant. The guy looks at it and say's I'm not chinese, I'm Vietnamese kinda huffy. I said i thought you were American. He smiled and read what he could then took it to the back. Turned out to be from a big Shanghai dept store that closed before WWII.
