Ivory miniature Hermes Bust?

I purchased this Hermes bust from a friend in his late 80s who said he purchased it at an estate sale of a very old home many years ago. The bust has similar texture and feel to ivory, as well as the weight to go along with it. There is a mark hammered into the back (See pictures.) It has marks where it has been hand carved, so I’ve ruled out the modern “alabaster paste cast.” Any info would be greatly appreciated!

There is also an “X” carved on the ridge of his back.

Nothing more. IMO

It isn't ivory. It is most likely a resin based composite.
