I recently bought an old Ketland Kentucky style longrifle. These generally go for around $1000-$1500 around here in decent but not perfect condition. This one has some issues--the lock screws, ramrod, and brass plate opposite the lock are all replacements. What this gun does have going for it (I think) is that it appears to be a Valley of Virginia piece. Stamped on the top of the barrel in crude lettering reads Va. Reg. Rockingham. I believe it to be REG instead of REC because they used the same C in place of a G in Rockingham, Evidently they must have lost their "G" stamp.
In any event, I was wondering if this rifle would be more valuable because of the stamping on it. If anyone could give me an approximate value, I really would appreciate it! Thanks.
