coin with hole in the middle

Hi! fellow timekillers. I'm brand new to this site and was wondering if anyone might know anything about this old copper coin I found recently. I realize there isn't much left to see. Above the figure of the head are the letters YTON. I cannot make-out any of the other letters. There is a hole in the middle of the coin and I have read on the internet where they did make a few copper coins with holes in the middle that was filled with a silver plug. The coin measures approximately 24mm. in diameter.

Re: coin with hole in the middle

I can't help on ID'ing the coin but I have found several coins with holes in them.In CW camps the soldiers used to
put a hole in them to make buttons to replace the ones that they have lost. But however nice find.
Also welcome to the T-Net.There are alot of very smart people on here that will help out on just about anything
    that you need help on.

I have found lots of Indian and late 1700 relics from this site. According to NOAH charts, this place was still in existence through the CW period. Appreciate the button information. I have also read that they used to use them for sinkers to fish with. Thanks!
