Its hand forged, its old, its ?????
Found this under our 1845 farm house.? It is hand forged.? The hook portion is about 5 inches long and the side with the heart is a little over 4 inches.? The only thing I can think of is handle used to pick up a pot off of a fire or something of that nature.? Any help would be appreciated...Thanks...Lance

My Grandmother had a piece like that hanging in her fireplace. It was to hang a cook pot on. She made some really good beans back then! HH. Chris

Just a guess but it looks like a lid lifter used to lift the lids off of the old cast iron pots and dutch ovens??

I agree with Buckram,? It was used to lift pots in and out of the fire place, close the damper, poke the coals? etc. etc . nice find HH Dave
