    Found Along Ohio River

    hi folks found this rock along the ohio river in southern indiana this morning while MD'ing, it's not a hot rock it just cought my eye. my aunt thinks it soem sorta hand grinding stone used by the indian's.

    its about the size of that new iphone and about as tall as a playing card (poker card). i do know for a fact that there was indian's in the general area where i found this.

    any ID'ing ideas would be great............................

    I would tend to agree with you. Someone from the American Indian artifacts forum could probably give you a firm ID.

    It looks like there is some uneven erosion of the rock - maybe there are varying hardness layers of this ?sedimentary? stone - look at some of the layers underneath the big eroded area - if those are indented too, perhaps this could be natural? I'd agree to check with someone with Native American experience, though.

    Unless you can find any wear-polish on it, it's just a rock. The center part is just a tiny bit softer than the rest.

    by the looks of the new scratches, i wonder if its a soft stone.

    Could be what's left of an old club or indian weapon and the wooden handle was probably tied around the narrow warn down part.....my 2c
