    Looks like the nut that holds a lampshade on a table lamp.
    I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!

    Rope could've been added to hang it, or a kid decided it'd make a better toy. Check out some of the lighting & lamp shops online. There are loads of replacement ones and replicas for restoring old lamps. They're great to have in the junk box for restoring those garage sale or antique store finds.
