    Buckle Help

Hello to All. Been lurking around the forum for a while and find it a great place for information and motivation. Finally purchased a digital camera and hoping to be able to contribute some interesting posts in the future.

I was looking for some help in IDing this buckle I dug this weekend. It's brass and what I guess is lead filled. About 2 1/4 " long and 1 3/4" wide. Another item I dug there was date 1908.

Thanks in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Buckle Help

Sorry, but the "attachment provision" on the object's back indicates it is not a buckle ...but instead a horse-harness "rosette" (a decorative emblem, which is mounted on the horse's bridle, saddle, or other harness).

The back of some rectangular belt-buckles do have a heavy brass wire (or bar) like the one on your rosette's back ...but the belt buckles always had at least TWO attachment-provisions on the back. Yours has only one attachment-provision, so it cannot be a belt buckle.

Also note, as shown in the photo below, on belt-buckles the attachment-wire/bar is located at (or very near) the edge of the buckle. On a rosette, it is located at (or very near) the middle ...as seen in the photo of the back of a World War One US Cavalry rosette.

It looks like a rosette instead of a buckle to me. Nice find Breezie

    Re: Buckle Help

No need to be sorry CannonBallGuy, I'm happy to know what it is. Thought it was small for a buckle,
and didn't think rosette as I thought they were always round. Let my education begin! Thanks again.

    Thanks for the welcome Breezie
