Gun pieces Whats it!

I snagged a trigger guard and butt plate today at a field site. This homesite, I'm guessing is early 19th century. Looking for any help with i.d. and or age. Thanks a bunch

Hard to say exactly, but late 18th early 19th century would be a reasonable guess, guns got much less ornate when they started being made in factories instead of by gunsmiths. Just a wild guess here, but the butt plate reminds me of ones I've seen on Pennsylvania flintlocks. Cool finds, and there may be more of that rifle there, I'd have to search that site some more if it were me.

The landowner seen both pieces and first thing out of his mouth was the possibility of it being from a flintlock. He is into collecting antique firearms. I think this will be tough to figure out, if at all since it probably wasn't produced by the thousands.

Yeah the thing about those early rifles is that they were made by hand and attributing unmarked parts to any particular maker is pretty much impossible. Even rifles by one maker will have subtle differences, which can make it even more difficult. Add to that the fact that there were regional styles of gun building which produced many similar guns, and it's virtually impossible.

You have a couple of nice old pieces there though, and they'll look good in a display.

Looks like parts of an Ohio rifle. Most were 1800s era.
