This is a find of mine from the week before last, Saturday I believe, in the field where I got my half cent. I had just gotten to the end of my row and got a blaring +90 signal on my machine. I look down and see the edge of it sticking out of the ground. I saw three or four lines on the bottom but didn't think much of them. But when I got home and washed it off I found that they were names. SARAH, MARY, JANE, and ELIZA. I didn't see the Eliza at first. The strange part is, they are all in reverse. Upon further investigation I found a script N and C also on this piece, not in reverse. This is one confusing piece. And help would be appreciated. The rectangle itself is about 2"x3".
Brian, like I said in my original post, I know what it says, SARAH, MARY, JANE, ELIZA, and Jeffro, the letters are recessed and it seems so unorganized, with random letters to be a printing plate in my opinion. Who knows, it's a puzzle...
Perhaps someone used this plate to practice with their letter punch set, which could explain the random names. Most of the letters are pretty even except the "E" in Jane. Neat find, Breezie
Every time I watch Gone With The Wind, I think we're gonna win this time!
Only that the names might be relevant, given a particular area, while conducting a google search. For instance, they all might be names from one family.
