my first wha? is really a who?-Totsietoy??-only an 1 1/2 long. the purple has a backward 1 inside on roof, the orange a backward 3. I did the law of a friend selling her 1890 house today. goes to figure that these are the only old things to turn up, only clad change and a pocket watch plate.
sorry about the quality of photo, taken in 'Photo Booth'--- it might not even show up here. Some day I'll get batteries for my ancient Nikon---

thanks for the input, Twisted One, but not quit sure if they are TootsieToys--- the first link from Wiki said that they have a metal axel, mine are one piece rubber/plastic and measure only 1.5 inches. They could be C. J. prizes--can't green check just yet---da Prof

I would have to agree with you. Looking at Tootsie and Dinky toys I can not find any with the type of axles you mention. Are the wheels and axles one piece? Because it sounds really familiar from when I was a kid, so sadly thinking late 70's early 80's now rather than my previous thoughts of around WW2.

I know I had some, just don't remember from what. I think the idea of a secondary piece to a transport truck, or model railroad like Jewelerguy mentioned might be closer.

Sent the info without a pictures to a friend of mine that might remember those cars, but I am not finding anything else close.

yupper, axels and wheels one piece. they look like early fifties, anything from the sixties on would have been made like Hot Wheels, they changed toy cars dramatically. I think there to big for H.O. scale. The reverse numbers on the inside might be a clue to the maker. I hit this place pretty hard, looking in all the obvious places kids would play and these are the only toys I came up with. I don't think the family had much extra cash, as no early coins came up yet either. The only other 'artifact' is a metal bumper from a larger 50's car-3'' long -would be nice to find the rest.

As I said my friend has a better memory then me, and he says all of the cars I had with axles like those were plastic bodied, 5 and dime store stuff that were bigger, and some cereal box ones that were about that size, but all were plastic.

Interesting cars. I looked at a few collector sites and see nothing, so I would guess either very rare, or not collectible.

The snap in plastic axles reminds me of the plastic dime store vehicles we used to buy as kids. Haven't found any on the dime store collectible sites that were metal, though.

Another alternative may have been some type of toy set, like a service station set, or perhaps even as pieces for an automotive game. Will keep searching.
