Possible ID....?????

I found this item in a Civil War Camp area. Its Brass, measures...3/4 in. long and 1/2 in. wide.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....

Leather mount/ornament,never found one myself on that era site (CW) but dont hunt that era much myself so not real sure.

It's a mount no doubt,just not sure they were useing them like it during the CW.But being can't match it up maybe they did.

Thanks Pete, very interesting. We've never found one like this, especially on this property. It does make sense though because we have found a lot of Calvary items on this land.

No problem,I've found them but just not on sites of that time frame.
