    Rosette?

Found this a few years back and still wonder, is it a rosette or button? It has a lead filled back but I only see one place it was attached and the front is iron stained. Also the size is small for a rosette. It is similar to a bullseye but different. Anyone ever seen one like it?

    Re: Rosette?

It is an antique luggage/carpetbag/trunk "skid foot." Four (or more) were tacked onto the bottom of the luggage so it could be slid easily across a hard surface. Made of brass so they wouldn't leave a rust-stain on rugs/carpets, and were lead-filled to make them more resistant to crushng by the luggage's weight. They are sometimes still found on luggage today, but usually made of plastic now.
