Re: ornate brass thingamajigger
Bob, what you have appears to be a chest/trunk 'foot,' which was used to protect the bottom of the chest, as well as used for decoration. They were generally dome shaped to raise the piece slightly off the floor. Neat find, Breezie

Re: ornate brass thingamajigger
Cast brass and Colonial American era.
Looks like it had iron attachments through the holes (as evidenced by the oxide rust staining). Appears to be either furniture or leather ornamentation.

I found a link of a plain modern type. http://www.brettunsvillage.com/trunk...parts/feet.htm
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

Yeehaa, I found a cut pistareen close by, hopefully there was a trunk full of em.
the only question I would have, do you think this would be on the bottom of a trunk? The small nipple in the design I would think would carve up a floor, The ones BigC posted seemed to have a smoother rounded shape to them.
