    Re: nazi medals /ss

thanks for the information, a co worker told me an old lady , who he did work for gave him a box of her late husbands ww2 medals, i told him they might be worth some money, he came to work and told me he sold one online for 4500.00, then brought these in to show me. I photographed them briefly on the seat of his truck. he has much more in the box including a purple heart. I never suspected any are fake. and still dont. I am going to talk with him on monday and tell him what was identified by treasurenet enthusiasts. Ill get better pics too. can any of these medals be identified to a list of recipiants by a serial number or such.

Well the US medals are most likely her husbands, I would think. I would have your friend find out if they were her husbands if so, then have her look for the citations that goes with the medals.

There is a market for medals and such, having the citation that goes with the medal just makes it more desirable. Plus a lot of collectors like to look for the history of why the award was given.

Wow nice collection and good ID work..
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

4 and 14 are some kind of crosses, could be French crosses, and better pictures of 10 and 14 would make for easier ID. As for 4 I'm still trying to wrap my brain around it.

    Re: nazi medals /ss

Number 20 is the German Army Honor Clasp on the buttonhole ribbon for the Iron Cross 2cd class. Problem is it should be gold in color as far as I remember. Also I don't think that number 8 is actually a German War Merit Cross, it's the wrong ribbon. I'm not sure what it is, but the ribbon looks right for the Franco British Cross of Honor, except that it's backward. It also resembles the French Croix de Guerre, but still the wrong ribbon. If I could see the markings on the cross I could tell you more.

Looking at the photo, they look too good to be true to me, they just look too new. Better pictures would help because even though the repros can be extremely good, there are some signs to look for.

There is a big scam out there with medals and especially German stuff. What the scammers will do is put together a box lot of medals and throw in a few real ones of lesser value to make the lot look better than it is. Check out the Wehrmacht Awards forum, these guys know all there is to know about these things, and tell your buddy he should post pics on there to get them verified.

It's actually number 17 that's the cap badge. The "1" is hidden in the silver part.

NolaKen I think you are correct the German Army Honor Clasp being gold, but the botton hole ribbon is correct for it. As for the cross I didn't even pay attention to the ribbon, it is a cross with swords as to which country, that I can 't figure out right now, amazing how many countries used the cross with swords as medals and decorations.

yeah when I looked at first I thought the same as you.... War Merit Cross, while I was trying to get a look at the others something about it just seemed weird, took me a minute to spot the ribbon. I looked around a bit today again and still haven't found that one.
