Pelican artifact found in waters of Greece
Does anyone know what this metal statue is? It was found in the waters of Greece. Seems to be brass or bronze. It is a Pelican with its beak in its chest which in ancient times represented blood of Christ. I have no clue how old it is or what it is. Can someone lead me in the right direction? Thanks

from the 'foot', it would appear to be the leg of a chair or table. Beyond that, I'm clueless. Size/scale? Cheers! Yakker

storks are found across Europe...perhaps it is not a pelican?
I agree the thing might be a leg for a chair or table...perhaps a chair from a theater.
are there mounting holes or something on the opposite side?

that thing is amazing , and if it is bronze better yet , it was eye balled or detected ?

It caught my eye when I was snorkeling. Took several attempts to retrieve it since it was so deep.

It's about 20 inches tall and is very heavy. It clearly resembles a pelican and the beak in the chest signifies writings about the symbolism of Christ.

It doesn't look like it had been in the sea a long time, and looks quite modern.
Don't piss down my back, then tell me it's raining.

What does the back side look like? It appears to be cast. Is the other side identical? Cool find and welcome to T-Net.

I'm leaning towards it being a crane as well

not ancient and some sort of leg... thats my opinion

Will it stand up on its own? If not, it seems to be a leg.
Modern, if it was in the ocean for any length of time it should have some wear and pitting
the details just seem way to crisp
In my opinion

This looks great. Cool find.
But I, too think it looks more like a stork or crane, if it is a pelican the pouch is not really prominent...
We could better tell if you take a full frontal picture, the two ones you posted are almost identical sideviews...
