Need help with a gun shell

Found this at an old property but I'm not sure of the age or what caliber it is because it's the first one I've found like it.it has the number 10 and the top am the number 55 at the bottom. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks to be for the Russian 7.62x54R, the code number 10 is for the Bulgaria Arsenal and a date code of 55 for 1955.

Looks to me like a 7.62 x 54 R shell casing. I might be wrong, but I think this round was developed in Russia in the 1930's. It's still in use today. I have a rifle chambered for this round and ammo is fairly easy to find for it. Most of it is steel cased, either plated with copper, zinc or coated in lacquer paint. I'm sure someone here can shed more light on it.

Still a great hunting caliber with proper bullets.

America was founded by tough hell-raisers. Rugged citizens who evaded taxes, spoke strongly against tyranny, grew tobacco, brewed beer, distilled spirits, and smuggled weapons. And it will be saved by those same types of citizens.

Thanks for the info. That makes it my oldest rifle casing I've found so far.

Nice looking NY state buck, I used to do quite a bit of deer hunting up that way growing up. I love the old military surplus rifles, but haven't had a chance to use them for hunting yet.
