    Found this item while metal detecting on a path in the woods in RI. No idea what it is, perhaps a button? Any thoughts??

    Yes... I think so, very basic one piece with minimal design... and it looks like there may have been a shank.

    I think button.

    Sound membrane for an old carbon chamber telephone.

    The reason old-timers tap a mic. - to loosen up the carbon chunks.
