need help IDing two coins.........

    need help IDing two coins.........

    Last year, a close friend of mine travelled abroad for a couple months. During his travels, he picked up these two coins to give to me. Of course, he wouldn't tell me their origin. Hoping you all can.
    I know almost nothing about them. I'm assuming they are copper. Don't even know "which way is up". The last pic is of one of them on top of a dime.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You're going to have to provide more information...where did your friend get the coin?

    Also, I know that the crossed keys are usually a symbol of the Catholic church, which makes sense with the cross on the other side...

    CAn I take a copy of your images i will post them on a few of the coin forums i belong to, Some one might know the anser to the mystery. i have a friend on this one forum who can research justabout anything . I ahve been collecting coins since i was about 8 and i believe I know alittle something about them this guy makes me look like I just Started collecting

    I wish I could offer more info, but that's all part of my friend's fun. He's done this to me before. And who am I to complain. After all, he's giving me neat old coins for free.

    All I can think of is that they look alot like the late 1590's - early 1600's French coins that were made only for use in Louisianna and Quebec, (but they were usually about an inch in diameter). The one coin looks like it might have a tiny "fleur-de-lis" between the crossed keys, (which were normally within a crest), and the other looks like its got a flower of some sort or other, in the same spot.

    Thats as close as I'm going to be able to find.

    That's closer than I've been able to get.

    The dating around 1600 - 1700 would be right, the design of the keys is from that period.

    It might be European, both Riga in Latvia and Regensburg in Germany have crossed keys !!

    I have not yet been able to find it !! .... still looking !!

    They're cool whatever they are. Where were they found?

    I can't help much other than say they are not Viking or Saxon. They have either been over cleaned or look like shipwrek coins. They look Late Medieval in date. Someone will track it down as they are pretty destinctive & have some lettering left.
