    Civil War Company Letter?

    Found at a site in south alabama that's given up coins ranging from an undated half cent and 1857 half dime up to a 1907 indian head. The attachment points have me stumped...thought they generally had small wire loops? Also, it's not stamped like those more commonly seen. Entire piece measures 1" x 7/8". Thanks for any help!

    That one looks like it was intended to be driven into wood.

    Don't know, maybe...also wondered if it was originally mounted to leather (like a saddle)?

    most likely hammered into leather and the back bent or flattened or drove into wood --say for horses or wagons or cannon carridges-- company D --artillery or cav.. most likely--- I found a brass number "4" that was similar sized at a cav camp site

    Just got back from the same site...dug a union gs button and a sling buckle! Guess I need to do some more research on this site...
