    lead eagles head?

I have found 2 of these little lead eagle head fittings, Both in hay fields the first one a few years ago, then another the other day. The recent one had wood inside. Flag pole top? anyone? . . anyone?
    Thanks,

Beats me but the would make a cool set of handle bar grips on a bike.
And I'd think they were pewter rather than pure lead.

How odd.........here's the one I dug in PA a few years ago.......exact as OP's I believe - consensus was a riding crop top, not sure if that's correct or not, would love to know......

I've searched everything I could think of flag pole finials to sword pommels and got real close like the knife above but no exact match. This is getting interesting.

Similar items were used as decorations on the front of sleighs, but they are usually brass... I don't know if maybe some were just brass plated? Here's an example: Click image for larger version.

Mine was found in a yard where the house was built in the 1820's. It was in an area where I dug part of an old horse bit.

both of mine were found at home sites that had a hay field, 2 nail holes for attaching to a pole, with the pole being about as thick as a sharpie pen. It seems it would point or face forward rather than up, Id like to see a close up pic of them fixed to a sleigh if anyone has access to that. Both sites where these were found date to about 1800, if that helps.

The legend grows!!!!!! I like the idea of it being a riding crop pommel, the buggy/sleigh part, flag top, or maybe/wild guess curtain rod ends?

That's why they were found in places where it snows...
