Found this thin brass piece near a log cabin built in the 1830s (but continuously lived in since). It may be part of a larger relic. The front side has an ornate floral design, though I can't get a clear picture of it. The reverse side has 3 sharp prongs that could bite into cloth. At the end nearest the 2 prongs there are 2 tabs which could've held the piece in place while being rotated like a hinge. I've looked at woman's garment strap buckles, suspender buckles, even small box hinges; but haven't come across a similar piece. Any help IDing & dating would be appreciated.

What about part of a book lock? This is the closest I could find.

Wrightdigger, a book lock is another interesting possibility that I'll look into. Thanks for the tip!

mollyk927, a shoe chip is another good possibity. Before posting on Treasurenet, I was looking at different kinds of shoe clips but couldn't find anything close. Will go back and look some more.
