Stumped on this, 22 inches long, tool ? weapon?

I feel as though I should know what this is but a bit stumped.

22 inches long, snapped off at the end, bit crude finishing.

Its flat on both sides, not very thick but doesnt bend without major force.

Iron? Brass? Bronze? Broken on both ends? Or was the 'tip' formed blunt?

DCMatt, its Iron, looks like some hammer marks along it, especially towards the broken end. Tip, its a bit sharp at that end, maybe a slight bevel indicating an "edge". i dont see any signs of it being broken off or a point missing and it appears as though thats the shape of that particular end. Maybe had a wooden surround to it where it was knocked into? Would definitely do some damage if someone came at you with it.

I will give it some more cleaning tomorrow and get a better look at it. Its an interesting piece though.

That is a tool for repairing broken roof slates. You slide it under the broken slate and hook the nail holding the broken slate. Then you beat the tool on the bend with a hammer to remove the nail. I have used them many times repairing slate roofs.
