Found at a colonial site...haven't got a clue

I found this at a colonial cellar hole. Usually I can figure out colonial relics, but this has me stumped. Maybe it's not colonial at all. Farm related?. I'm hoping someone will know.

That finger appears that it may have rotated? Maybe a latch of some sort? Part of a ratcheting mechanism.

It has a latch mechanism in it. Could be an old coach handle? coach door latch

    I'm thinking it's part of a gear selector switch for a 10-speed bike. (?)

Interesting find. I agree with Anduril, it looks like a gear selector switch to me too.

Thanks for the replies! It's very possible that it could be a gear selector for an old bike. There is a small junk yard close by. It's the most modern thing I've ever found there...by a couple of centuries lol.

I'm not really buying into the gear selector thing. But I don't know what it is. It's brass, isn't it? Brass bicycle parts? Hmmmm....

Is it broken off at the big end? It's hard to tell much from those pics... It is an interesting piece, though. Seems very old... Can you clean it up and give us a few more angles?

Looks like the upper roller from a sliding pocket door.
