    All Types Of Treasure Hunting

    Hello!

I cannot seem to find anything that looks like this on the internet. Some distinguishable characteristics make me believe it's not a typical immigrant trunk:

    - The dome top only opens 1/2 way.
    - Imperial Eagle, Crowns, Flower painted on chest / trunk
    - Cask Iron round feet
    - Engravings on Iron
    - 2 places for padlocks, 1 skeleton key
    - Lock has a design that seems to be traced to medieval time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    Thank you!

America was founded by tough hell-raisers. Rugged citizens who evaded taxes, spoke strongly against tyranny, grew tobacco, brewed beer, distilled spirits, and smuggled weapons. And it will be saved by those same types of citizens.

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto Chauncey!

I have a feeling the black painted 'decorative' stencils were added at a later time.
I've seen these types of chests before and I know they were designed to only open halfway for a specific reason.

I think this chest is Middle Eastern in origin, possibly Syria, Kazakhstan or from Afghanistan.

If you could show us a pic of the underside, I may be able to give you a date range of manufacture.
From what I can see I'm thinking 18thc.
