    Candle snuffer???

    Found this in the yard of a 1700's house.
    Appears to be either silver or pewter?? Pretty heavy

    I was thinking either candle snuffer minus the handle or bell

    Any thoughts??

    Not a candle snuffer ...
    I don't think.
    it would be of a more conical design to be a candle snuffer,

    a service bell (missing the handle) would be my guess.
    something to summon the maid or butler...etc.
