what is this colonial relic?
Found this thing along with another broken one recently. There were oodles of relics found at the site which we have hit at least 7 or 8 times. The coins found were 1711 and 172? cut spanish silver bits and a few badly worn British halfpennies. This is our most recent worthwhile site.
What is this thing? Very crude.
You should see the solid gold cufflinks my partner found here! Hand etched and ornate, they are nearly perfect and still connected together! I have never seen anything like them. I will get a picture and post those bad boys with a story.

Since you said there was another one of these, could it be something used for decoration on a horse? Just a thought. I don't know what they call the things you put on a horse, but it seems like I've seen similarly sized objects on horses in shows before. Maybe these were commonly used back then. I don't know...
Just my two cents worth!

Looks like a horse bridal rosette type of decoration. The ones used by the military look identical but have US in the middle. Nice find...Lance
