  3. Bison Bison Jaw?

Bison bison or Bos Taurus (cow)? Found on a river gravel bar in Sothern Minnesota. Sediments in the area range from cretaceous to holocoen with a good amount of Wisconsin lobe glacial till. Previously we have found other bison (long bones and teeth), elk, bear, mammoth, and ancient horse...
  4. Native American Mauls?

These were found together in an old shop on my grandparent's farm. Is the one without the haft grove an actual maul/artifact or not? The only reason I suspect it may be is it does show some wear on the rounded end. These are the only photos I have.
  5. Maul This

Possible Native American maul (left photo)? The only reason I ask is it was found in a collection with other 'actual' mauls that have grooves for hafting. Also, it does seem to have some tip wear. This is the only photo I have...

I've posted this on several ID sites (Facebook, Fossil Forum, etc.) but there seems to be no idea or no interest... Partial tibia of what? This was found on a river gravel bar in southern Minnesota :camera:

  8. Notable Finds from the Month of October

Hey, Everyone! I've just compiled my list of notable finds from the Midwest during October (mostly Wisconsin with some Minnesota thrown in for good measure). Several old coins but lots of relics (a few of which I posted in "Today's Finds" here). I can't copy-paste the format with all the...
  9. ✅ SOLVED Need help with farm implement part ID, please

I recently dug this piece near the ruins of my great-grandfather's old grainery in the woods. All I have to go on is that it's from a farm implement and the number '110' stamped on it. My best guess is that it came off a Cockshutt 110 grain drill.. possibly? Does anyone have knowledge of such a...
  10. Stone Effigy Collection - Tell Me I'm Not Losing My Mind

Hi, this is my first post. I've attached some photos of some carved animal/human figures that I've found in Stillwater and around Elk River, Minnesota. These are just a few of the more "obvious" pieces, so I'm pretty sure I'm not losing my mind and seeing things that aren't there (friends and...
  11. Minnesota Trade Axe S touch mark

There are some areas where our soil conditions are easy on the iron. After more than 20 trade axes, id have to say this one came out of the ground in the most pristine condition.

  13. Copper(?) Police button dug at old farmhouse

I dug this POLICE button near a tree line between an old farm house and RR tracks. It's nearly the exact size of a quarter and appears to be copper. The back is intact but rough condition and needs some cleaning overall.. Are there any button experts that know the approximate year such buttons...

  15. My first barber, and my oldest coin.

I decided to go out last night after work. I hit a park that has been yielding me a lot of silver for no apparent reason. About three minutes in (no exaggeration), I dig my first hole. I was slightly hesitant, as the signal was not as solid as I normally like. Anyway, I cut the plug and about...

  18. Southern Minnesota Gold?

Hi, I'm new here as you can tell. I have had the 'bug' for a few decades now, ever since I was a kid living on the outskirts of Vegas finding rose quartz rocks in the deserts... Anyway, I've landed in Mn, and have taken to the idea that I might actually find something of interest around here...
  19. Anyone in Central Minnesota?

Hey all, I've been looking around here for a while now, and I've seen a couple threads of people looking for other MD-ers in MN, but they never seem to be in my area...
