:hello:

A couple of years I managed to gain permission on a field that was in a very good area in the Yorkshire Wolds, I searched this field twice but both times there was only a small strip of the field in stubble, the rest had crop in it, and the crop was a no go area on this farm, but I did get the Silver Hawking bell from this small strip.

Today I had arranged to go on a club dig further down in the Yorkshire wolds and I had to drive past this same field to get there, yes you guessed the whole field was still in stubble on we got the go ahead to go on. Finds were a bit sparse on the ground at first but patience paid off with a 1st-4thC Roman enameled mount/stud, well pleased with that. Further into the field and close by the stud came a very nice 1stC Penannular Brooch, although bent it is still complete :headbang:

Later in the day I kept up the hammered count with a very small hammered.. farthing...possibly.. Edward1st not quite sure, so small, the power of the Deus never ceases to amaze me. I can't remember ever having a Charles 11 farthing, had two today.:laughing7:

I have included a picture of the 1stC brooch of how it would have looked.

UPDATE...THE ENAMELLED STUD IS INFACT A CELTIC SWORD FITTING.:headbang:

I'm the first to congratulate??? Great finds SS! The brooch is way cool. Too bad it's bend, but to get one complete is a great day in anyones books. The sword mount is amazing, much enamel left!

What a successful day you had, those are all wonderful finds. The brooch is really nice, did you bend it back into shape?

No I would not attempt to bend it back into shape, it would probably snap.

Silly me, I now see where you said you included a pic of an example of an un-bent one.

I'd be afraid to straighten that as well.

Pffffffft !

There is your reply :P

Well done SS. awesome finds.

Double pfffttt( I'm joking) Lovely and intriguing finds SS. My oldest find is a Colonial era leather strap guide and you would have thought I discovered some 15th century artifact. Nice hunt you had.

:P
The Penannular brooch feature a long pin attached by its head to a ring, the pin can move freely around the ring as far as the terminals, which are close together. The brooches were worn by both men and women, usually singly at the shoulder by men and on the breast by women, and with the pin pointing up.
