1st hunt of the season: 1848 Large Cent, pocket watch, wheat, knife.

I finally was able to go out on Sunday, and to a new site that I'd had my eye on all winter. The returns so far are very promising: an 1848 Braided Hair Large Cent, a pocket watch, a 1950-S wheat with minimal wear, and an old pocket knife.

Pics below are immediately post-recovery and post-cleaning. According to what I've read about Ingersoll pocket watches, the serial number should have 8 digits (given the dates stamped on the movement). The beginning of the serial number on this watch is corroded, but if anyone has ideas about what the full number is, I'd love to hear it.

[Edit: I loaded the pics in reverse. Makes more sense if you start from the bottom and go up from there].

Thanks guys-- yeah, the watch is definitely early 20th century (just trying to pin down the year). In the field shot, you can see that the hands are still intact, but they fell off and pretty much turned to dust when I turned it vertical. The dial appears in excellent condition and the crystal isn't cracked.

I found the piece with some writing in a circle once, just that piece of the watch. Very cool, I love old watches.

Thanks. The LC was about 6" deep and gave a nice clean 87-88 signal on my AT Pro. I was expecting a quarter of some kind (I've recovered Draped Bust LC's before and they were all 84 VDI. This is my first Braided Hair LC).

Cool, I love old watches too-- this is my first intact watch find. Fairly shallow (maybe 3") in the same general area as the LC, but several decades more recent. Still lots of signals in that area to check out.
